Sustainability

Grown Responsibly. Extracted with Purpose.

From rice grown on our own fields to our controlled cultivation facility, sustainability at Ujala Life Sciences is built into how every ingredient is made.

01 · From our fields to our grow rooms

Own-farm rice substrate

Functional mushrooms need a grain substrate to grow on. We don't buy ours on the open market. The rice that feeds our cultures comes from our own fields, so traceability starts before the first culture is inoculated.

  • Known origin: every batch of substrate comes from fields we farm ourselves.
  • Shorter supply chain: no third-party grain sourcing between our fields and our grow rooms.
  • Consistent inputs: a consistent substrate is the starting point for consistent bioactives.

How our practices contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals

Sustainable development

Baandal Valley Development Project

In collaboration with HESCO, the Himalayan Environmental Studies and Conservation Organization, the Foundation has adopted eight villages in the Baandal Valley near Dehradun, focusing on holistic development through science and technology.

  • Capacity building: training self-help groups on savings, loans and vocational skills.
  • Alternative energy: bio-geysers to support sustainable energy use.
  • Agriculture: protective cultivation to improve vegetable production and profitability.
  • Economic empowerment: women's self-help groups in each village now have their own bank savings account.
8villages adopted

Protective cultivation in the Baandal Valley and controlled cultivation at Ujala Life Sciences rest on the same idea: grow more, on less land, with fewer inputs, and keep the value close to the people who produce it.
